A sudden drone attack on a merchant ship in the Arabian Sea continued today. The vessel, MV Chem Pluto, was damaged but no casualties were reported. Of the ship’s 22 crew members, 21 are Indians, one is Vietnamese. All are unharmed. A maritime agency said the ship was linked to Israel. As a result, the mystery of who or who is behind this drone attack has closed.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations and another maritime security agency reported the first attack on the weapon. An organization called ‘IFC-IOR’ from Gurugram has also played an important role in the rescue and coordination work today. After receiving information from them, the Indian Navy immediately sent P-81 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (surveillance aircraft) to the spot. According to two British agencies, the Liberian flag was flying on the ship floating off the coast of India. The ship was carrying chemicals. Although the flag is Liberian, the vessel is authorized by Israel. It was coming from Saudi Arabia to Mangaluru port in India. At the time of the attack, the vessel was 200 nautical miles southwest of Veraval, India. It is initially assumed that the attackers knew the ship belonged to Israel. Suddenly there was a huge explosion in the ship. caught fire. However, the fire was quickly brought under control. So although the ship was damaged, there was no loss of life.
“Parts of the ship have been damaged,” the British arms agency said on its website. The water rises above the ship.” Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Vikram reached the spot. The Indian Navy also sent a warship to MV Chem Pluto. The ship will be brought to the nearest port.
An investigation into the incident has started. It is initially suspected that the attackers are Yemen’s Houthi militants. They are targeting ships bound for or coming from Israel. This is probably to take revenge on Gaza. The Houthis are conducting frequent attacks in the Red Sea. Many ships had to change course for this. ‘IFC-IOR’ reported that 9 such incidents occurred in the Red Sea between 14 and 20 December.
