Cancer patients are twice as likely to have a stroke . A group of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania in the United States advised cancer patients to be aware of stroke prevention. The researchers said this in a research paper published in the journal Nature Communications. According to them, most of the people who die every year due to stroke in the whole world are cancer patients. Nicholas Jaworski, an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Pennsylvania State University, said cancer patients often died of other diseases. In many cases the cause of death is stroke.
An analysis of the data on the causes of death of 50 lakh cancer patients showed that the majority of patients died of stroke. It has been seen in both male and female patients. However, research has revealed that cancer patients are more likely to have a stroke at a young age. In other words, cancer patients are twice as likely to die from stroke than any other disease.
Now the question is, why is the probability of death of stroke cancer patients so high? In this regard, assistant professor of neurosurgery at Pennsylvania State University, Brad Zakchario, said that cancer patients are treated with chemotherapy or radiation. As a result, blood vessels become weak. This chemotherapy also affects the brain. Especially in patients with brain cancer, there are dire side effects. Chemotherapy affects the brain. A blood clot in the brain is most likely to lead to a brain stroke. Research has proven this.
