What is the function of the gallbladder?

Some of the bile produced by the liver is stored in the gallbladder. The function of bile is to aid in the digestion of fatty foods. Normally, bile is secreted from the liver and helps in the digestion of fatty foods. However, if you suddenly eat a lot of fatty foods in excess, then bile comes out of the gallbladder and helps in the digestion of fatty foods.

How are gallstones formed?

Bile that accumulates in the gallbladder is very concentrated. This bile can gradually take the form of stones. A number of factors can be responsible for steron from bile. As can be the case with some drug reactions, many changes in the body occur during pregnancy, which can lead to the formation of estrone. It has also been observed that the population living in eastern India has a slightly higher incidence of gallbladder stones. Besides, if you eat a lot of oily food, fried food, the risk of gall bladder stones increases. That is, multiple factors can be responsible behind the formation of gallbladder stones.

Are women more likely to have gallbladder stones?

Both men and women are at risk of developing gallbladder stones. However, women are more prone to this type of problem than men. In this case there is a current rule – four ‘F’. ie female, fertile, fat, fat. That is, childbearing age, obesity and age over forty are at risk of developing gall bladder stones. Besides, this type of problem can also occur even if you are taking continuous contraceptive pills.

What are the symptoms of gallbladder stones?

Gallbladder stones do not form overnight. Stones are formed slowly over a long period of time. As a result, the patient’s body may not show any symptoms at first. Some patients develop no symptoms even after estrogen formation. On the other hand, a number of patients were admitted to the hospital with symptoms of sudden severe abdominal pain and were diagnosed with gall bladder stones on diagnostic tests.

No symptoms?

Generally few symptoms can be noticed. For example, a patient may have more gas problems. In medical terms this problem is called flatulent dyspepsia. Also, those who were already suffering from gas problems feel that they are getting more problems. Apart from this, some other symptoms can be looked for such as pain under the right rib.

What are the symptoms of acute or emergency?

Excessive infection in the gallbladder can also cause vomiting. The patient develops fever. Abdominal pain is also severe with vomiting. such

The case should be understood as an acute condition. In this condition, the patient should be taken to the hospital immediately.

What to do if there are no symptoms. How will the disease be diagnosed?

There is usually nothing to do. However, in those who do not have symptoms, the disease is diagnosed in two ways. First of all, suddenly one day during the annual health check-up, the gall bladder is detected during the ultrasonography, or the stone problem is detected during the ultrasonography for any other disease.

Silent Stone or Gallbladder Stone without Symptoms What to do?

According to the rules of medical science, if a silent stone is detected in the gallbladder, an operation is definitely required. There are two reasons behind this. First of all, there is no other way to get the stone out. Second, it is difficult to predict when and where the patient lives. A sudden onset of pain while traveling to a remote area can make it difficult to get immediate medical care. In that case, if the stone is detected, whether there are symptoms or not, it is better to plan and have an operation. Because if the stone from the gall bladder somehow gets stuck in the bile duct, then there is a risk of acute pancreatitis, jaundice.

Gallbladder stones can be life threatening?

Risk of gallbladder rupture due to severe infection remains Such a situation is certainly worrying. Let me say something about this. Gallbladder stones cannot be cured with medication. There is only one way to remove the stone, and that is to remove the gallbladder surgically. And we all know that any surgery takes a toll on the body. Now if a patient has an infection in his body, the patient already has to bear a shock. If along with that problem, surgery is also required, then the patient’s body gets a double shock. It is better to undergo surgery if a silent stone is detected than to take this double shock.

Does age have anything to do with gallbladder stones?

I can personally say that I have done stone surgery on a four-year-old child. At least 7 to 8 children under 10 years of age have undergone gallbladder stone surgery in the last one year. So there is no specific age for stone formation. Stones can occur at any age.

What tests should be done before the operation?

Whether open surgery or laparoscopy, gallbladder stones are performed under general anesthesia.

Is laparoscopy better or open surgery?

25 years ago there was no laparoscopy procedure. Earlier open surgery had to be done. Now laparoscopy surgery is more common. But the relevance of open surgery has not been lost. In laparoscopy, the patient’s body is less scarred. The patient can walk within 5 hours after the operation. You can eat after 6 hours. Only one day stay in the hospital. You can join work quickly. Work from home is fine. 7 days leave should be taken if there is a matter of commuting to office. Because any operation creates huge stress on body and mind. Just as large shocks to the body cause visible lesions on the surface of the body, laparoscopic surgery also creates a shock inside the body. The body needs time to heal itself. Now let’s talk about when to do open surgery. If some patients have physical complications, open surgery is required.

What kind of complications can arise?

Patient’s medical history should be taken. That is the decision. Besides, while performing laparoscopic surgery, if it is seen that the internal organs of the patient’s abdomen are covered with fat like glue, then there is no movement without open surgery. If ERCP has already been done, there is a 5% risk of open surgery if the patient is suffering from repeated problems.

In general, the position of the organs inside the abdomen is not understood. As a result, if any problem occurs during laparoscopy, open surgery has to be decided. We decide to do open surgery after talking to the patient’s family. It should be remembered that our first duty is to save the patient’s life.

What to check before the operation?

Chest x-ray, ECG, general blood test, TC DC, hemoglobin, blood sugar, urea, creatinine, liver function test etc. are done. Surgery is performed using general anesthesia. So first we need to know whether the patient has any other physical problem or not. It is also necessary to know whether the patient has heart disease, breathing problems, high blood pressure or not. It is important to know whether the patient is taking blood thinners. If there is acute stomach pain, amylase, lipase should be checked in the blood. Because it is necessary to see whether there is pancreatitis or not. Echocardiography may be necessary in older age.

How should life be after the operation?

Even if the gallbladder is removed, the patient does not have any special problems with eating. On average, 1200 to 1400 mL of bile is released from the liver throughout the day. Gallbladder contains 50 ml of bile. Removing the gallbladder should not be a problem. However, for the first one to two months after the surgery, the patient is strictly forbidden to eat too much food. Besides, it is said to control the consumption of fried food in excess.

Is there no way to prevent gallbladder?

There is no way to prevent it separately. But eating on time, eating a balanced diet, exercising helps to maintain good overall health. So everyone should follow a healthy lifestyle.
