Does taking antibiotics really reduce colds and coughs?

Does taking antibiotics really reduce colds and coughs? Many of us quickly take antibiotics after catching a cold. But do you really get rid of this problem by taking antibiotics? Or is it possible to recover from cold without this medicine? Eminent doctor gave his opinion on these issues. Bengalis are shivering in the cold. And the number of people suffering from cold and cough is increasing in such cold days. The trouble is, once caught in the trap of such a problem, many of us start taking antibiotics from the drugstore without consulting a doctor. They claim that this will get rid of the problem in a short time.

Does taking antibiotics really reduce colds and coughs?

But the question is, are antibiotics effective in the treatment of colds? Or taking this drug without a doctor’s advice increases the risk of falling into the trap of multiple complex problems? It was with the urge to know the answer to this question that we contacted Prof. Dr. Anirban Dolui, an eminent public health expert and assistant professor of a government medical college in the state. Antibiotics will reduce colds and coughs? In response to this question, Dr. said, * Most of the time behind problems like colds and coughs, viruses are the culprit. But antibiotics cannot kill viruses. Instead, antiviral drugs should be used to kill the virus. Antibiotics on the other hand work against bacteria. Therefore, taking unnecessary antibiotics for fever, cold, cough will not get any benefit, in addition, the risk of falling into the trap of multiple physical problems ‘increases’. Antibiotic resistance is another name for the problem. Some beneficial bacteria and some harmless bacteria (cannot cause disease) are present in our body. Now if you take antibiotics unnecessarily, then these bacteria will die prematurely. And if such incidents happen again and again, naturally these bacteria will make genetic changes for the sake of protecting their own existence. And even then these bacteria cannot be killed with the help of common antibiotics. And this problem is called antibiotic resistance in medical terms. Don’t worry about colds and coughs, there is no need to take antibiotics for this type of viral illness. Instead, para-cetamol in case of fever, some anti-allergic medicine can be taken in case of cold and cough. In most cases, it will be possible to overcome the trap of disease and lead a healthy life. So quit the bad habit of buying unnecessary antibiotics for colds and coughs. Only then will your path to health be wide.

Be careful if the problem increases, but if you have a high fever, or if you do not want to reduce the cold and cough, or if it continues to increase day by day, you should not sit at home. Rather, seek medical advice as soon as possible in this situation. Then if the doctor thinks you have a secondary bacterial infection, he may recommend antibiotics. By taking medicines as per his advice, you can recover quickly. The course must be completed, there is a specific course of antibiotics. The patient must complete that course. Even if the cold and cough clears up after starting the medicine, finish the course of antibiotics as prescribed by the doctor. By doing this, the medicine will work in your body the next time. And this antibiotic may not work later in the group if you stop taking the medicine midway. So follow this rule to stay healthy.
