Happy birthday Joe Biden. America’s oldest president, Joe Biden, turned eighty-one. But on his birthday on Monday, the White House did not host a lavish event. The cake was not cut publicly. If Biden is elected president for a second term, he will be 86 at the end of the term! Now Biden is 81. And his walking, slurred speech sometimes raises the question in the mind of the countrymen – has age overtaken the president?
According to the law of the country, there is no upper age limit for being elected to any office in America. But several recent surveys show that even among Democratic supporters, Biden’s age is becoming a concern. The survey shows that the current president is slightly behind his potential Republican rival, former President Donald Trump. Analyzing the surveys, another picture emerges. In the 2020 election, the majority of voters under 30 voted for Biden. Biden led Trump by 26 points among voters of this age. In addition, so-called ‘swing states’, i.e. those whose votes depend on the outcome of the overall national election, young voters overwhelmingly voted for Biden last time. But the analysis also shows that this time, among the youth voters who are aware enough about politics, economy, environment, etc., Biden’s popularity has decreased more. It appears that Biden’s various decisions on student loans, the environment, climate issues, and most recently Israel-Palestine are reducing support for Biden among younger voters. Another survey says that 77 percent of voters and 65 percent of Democrats doubt whether President Biden will be mentally or physically strong enough to lead the country if re-elected.
Biden himself makes plenty of jokes about his age. A few days ago at a press conference held at the White House, he joked that he is 198 years old and this experience helps him carry the burden of the country.
Incidentally, Biden’s predecessor is only 4 years younger than him. Hobby actor Trump, however, covers his 77 years very skillfully with lush golden hair and luxurious living.
