Israeli youth confined . Murder cannot be solved by killing people. So he does not want to go to war. 18-year-old Tal Mitnick told the Israeli government that he would not go to war in Gaza. Last Tuesday, he was detained in army jail for 30 days. Recently, an American newspaper reported this news.
Combat training is compulsory for all in Israel. This is the first time anyone has been arrested for non-combat since the Israel-Hamas war began on October 7. According to official sources, Mitnik was arrested for ‘political’ reasons.
The Israeli youth shared a video on the account of a volunteer organization called ‘Meservote’ on the X-handle. The organization encouraged not to join the army, not to go to war. Mitnick said in the video, “I believe killing people cannot be solved by killing people. The killing spree by Hamas in Gaza cannot be solved by the brutal attacks. Violence can never be the solution to violence. And that’s why I refuse.”
If a resident of Israel does not want to go to war, it is a punishable crime. Although many do not go. But for that he has to show proof of physical or mental illness. Mitnick will be held at the Israel Defense Forces military base in Tel Hashom for 30 days. Many people came to show their support to him before entering the jail. In a statement, Mitnick said, “The attacks carried out by Hamas on October 7th still strike a chord in our minds. There is no such incident in the history of our country.” He said, despite this, the way Israel is taking ‘revenge’ is not only against Hamas, but they are also doing this against the Palestinians. Gaza’s residential areas, refugee camps continue to be bombed. The Israeli government is providing political and military support to the occupiers who are forcibly occupying Palestinian land in the West Bank. Even inside the country, unprecedented political violence continues. The 18-year-old youth said, “I don’t believe, such violence, violence in the country
May increase security. I don’t want to join such a war of revenge.” In Mitnick’s words, “Only through diplomacy, political effort and changing government policy can death and destruction be avoided on both sides.
