This problem can occur in any part of the body, but usually this disease is more visible in the feet.

Varicose veins treatment

Many people suffer from this disease. Varicose vein problems are often seen as cosmetic problems. But the fact is that it is a physical disease. And this is one of the factors in pregnancy going down the drain. According to statistics, 7 percent of people in India are affected by this disease. So the question in the minds of many, what is varicose vein? How do varicose veins start? What are the symptoms of this disease?

What is the treatment of this disease?

Every cell in our body needs oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to survive. The blood vessels that carry blood from cell to cell are called arteries. And the blood vessels that carry the blood used from different parts of our body to the chambers of the heart, we call them veins. Leg veins in human body are divided into two rows. At the junction of these two rows are the interstitial veins. These veins have one-way valves. That is, blood can only flow in one direction between these veins. During the flow of blood, if for some reason the valve in the vein does not work properly or becomes weak, the blood starts to flow in the opposite direction. And the veins gradually dilate. As a result, they swell and push the skin out. This disease is called varicose veins. Generally, those whose occupations require continuous standing for a large part of the day, such as traffic police, cooks, event management workers, are more prone to this disease. Because this type of living puts too much pressure on the feet, the veins gradually become damaged over time. Overexertion also increases the risk of contracting this disease. This disease is usually seen in old age. This disease almost does not occur under the age of thirty. People who are overweight and have a family history of the disease are at a higher risk of developing the disease. Women are more affected than men. Pregnancy adds an additional level of risk. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can be a reason for this. Also, blood volume in the body increases during pregnancy, but blood flow from the legs to the pelvis decreases as the growing uterus puts pressure on the abdominal veins. As a result, some may develop varicose veins for the first time during pregnancy.

If someone has this problem before pregnancy, it can become serious towards the end of pregnancy. The secretion of special female hormones in women before menstruation or after menopause tends to relax the walls of their veins. Also, hormone replacement therapy or long-term use of birth control pills can also increase the risk of varicose veins.

This disease has a variety of symptoms. Swelling of the feet, pain in the muscles of the feet, heaviness of the feet, swelling of the ankles, burning on the bottom of the feet, throbbing, muscle spasms, brown spots on the skin of the feet, itching of the feet, etc. Usually, the pain worsens after prolonged sitting or standing. There may be itching around one or more veins. Sometimes the skin near the ankle becomes ulcerated or sore. As the veins swell, dark purple or blue veins appear on the skin. Subsequently, tension is felt in the leg muscles. Sometimes hard lumps appear on the feet, resulting in difficulty even walking a little.

How is the diagnosis?

Doctors usually diagnose this disease by knowing the patient’s detailed history and physical examination. Sometimes a Doppler ultrasound scan of the leg veins is done to check the blood flow pattern in the veins and to see if there are any blood clots.

What is the treatment for varicose veins?

In most cases, there are no outward symptoms of this disease. But if symptoms appear, treatment is definitely needed. But remember, this is a progressive and irreversible disease. Once the damage is done, no treatment can reverse it. Rather, it is ensured that it cannot progress to the next stage.

In the early stages of the disease, exercise, elevating the legs while sleeping, wearing compression stockings, etc. have good results in many cases. In some cases drugs are applied. However, with the help of drugs or the above-mentioned measures, it is only possible to delay the progression of the disease, but it is not possible to return it to the previous state or completely prevent the progression of the disease.

In the past, varicose veins were treated with surgery or thermo-abrasion. But both these treatments are quite painful. These surgeries had to be done using high levels of anesthesia. In many cases, many patients suffer from the same problem again after the surgery. That is, the disease would return again. The cost of those surgeries was also high. But despite these problems, doctors and patients used to choose this method in earlier days. Because there was no other way. Of course, even if surgery is done now, it is done in a different way. Surgical stripping and ligation or simple surgery involving incisions between the groin and leg muscles. A stripper tool is inserted into the diseased vein to remove it from the leg and it takes two to three weeks to heal.

But now medical science has improved a lot. nowadays

Varicose veins are rarely treated with surgery. The hassles of anesthesia, the cuts, the bleeding are now a thing of the past. After examining the condition of a patient’s varicose veins, a special glue-like substance is injected into the affected veins. Within a few days, the bluish spots formed by the swollen veins gradually disappear from the skin. This sophisticated treatment method did not take long to master but has become quite popular in a short period of time. Because this procedure is completely painless and the chances of recurrence of the disease after applying this procedure are also very low.

Also minimally invasive hybrid therapies include endovenous laser abrasion and foam sclerotherapy. This procedure has many advantages as an alternative to surgery. It is a simple and day-care procedure which is done by instillation with a needle without any complications. This is the best method with a cosmetic eye. It does not leave surgical scars on the legs. Also, hospitalization is not required as general anesthesia is not required. It can also be done in patients who are ineligible for surgery and are at risk. With a success rate of over 95 percent, endovenous laser treatment is the best option. This state-of-the-art treatment for varicose veins is being practiced in various major government and private hospitals in Kolkata and is becoming increasingly popular. In the past few years, many patients with varicose veins have been treated with this method and regained their normal rhythm.

How to prevent this disease?

First, don’t sit or stand for long periods of time. Second, don’t let the weight gain or try to keep it off. Third, get used to a high-fiber and low-salt diet and exercise regularly. Also, avoid wearing high-heeled shoes. Check your legs to see if there are any swollen veins under the skin that are bluish. If something like this is observed, consult a doctor as soon as possible without delay.
